Leeds United boss Marcelo Bielsa spoke to BBC Sport (18:39) about Raphinha’s performance on his first start for the club.
The Brazilian joined Leeds in the summer from French side Rennes for £17 million. (Goal) Raphinha was used off the bench on three occasions before the break, but he was given the nod from the start against Arsenal.
The 23-year-old had a decent game. He had a few really good touches and caused Arsenal’s left side problems at times. However, the end product was missing – like all of his teammates.
The Whites boss was asked about the Brazilian’s performance and he claimed that the winger did not do enough to shine against Arsenal, who were there for the taking after going down to 10 men.
Bielsa said: “It was a positive performance but not enough to shine. He (Raphinha) contributed to help the offensive performance of the team.”
Raphinha is a quality player. He is quick, good on the ball and is a brilliant dribbler. He fits into Leeds’ system very well, but he still needs time to settle after his big move in the summer.

Bielsa showed his trust by starting him against Arsenal. The Brazilian will be hoping that he gets another chance when they travel to Merseyside to face Everton next weekend.
Raphinha, if he starts, will need to catch Bielsa’s eye. He is playing in a position where the competition is incredible. Ian Poveda is pushing for a starting spot, while Helder Costa is the more experienced option.
The Brazilian needs to adapt quickly and show what he is capable of. If he doesn’t, he will have to settle for a place on the bench this season.
