Alan Smith has expressed his concerns about Leeds United goalkeeper Illan Meslier, after his recent performances, as per his comments to the Pitch to Post podcast.
Marcelo Bielsa has shown a lot of faith in Meslier, who is still only 20-years-old, by making him Leeds’ number one this term.
The decision looked to be a good one in the early part of the campaign, as the French stopper produced some excellent displays.
However, more recently, Meslier’s performances have been called into question by some Leeds fans.
The Whites have conceded four in both their last two outings, with the youngster failing to cover himself in glory.
And Smith has suggested that he is becoming worried about the prospect now.
“The young lad Illan Meslier is looking a little vulnerable, after having to pick the ball out of the back of the net a few times, so there’s some concerns there,” Smith said.
“I think for Leeds to lose their last two 4-1 would cause some alarm bells, particularly the defeat at Palace. They are leaking goals.”
The problem for Bielsa is that he doesn’t have many options if he does want to replace Meslier in goal.
Kiko Casilla would be a controversial choice to start for Leeds, and he has not always convinced, while Elia Caprile is even less experienced.
Leeds are next in action against Arsenal this weekend, when they will be hoping to get back to winning ways.
