Leeds United head coach Marcelo Bielsa has told Leeds Live that Kalvin Phillips is fit to start against Arsenal this weekend.
Phillips has not played in Leeds’s last three matches due to a shoulder injury.
However, the 24-year-old England international defensive midfielder is fit and is likely to start against Arsenal this weekend.
Leeds will take on the Gunners at Elland Road in the Premier League on Sunday evening.
However, Bielsa has said that attacking midfielder Pablo Hernandez will not play against the North London outfit due to injury.
Bielsa told Leeds Live about Phillips: “It’s probable (he will start). I can’t guarantee it, but it’s probable.”
The Argentine added: “Phillips: yes. Moreno: yes. Llorente: not yet. Shackleton: not yet. We add Pablo to the injury list as he picked up a muscular injury during this break. Nothing serious, but he won’t be able to play this weekend.”
Good and bad news
Leeds have lost their last two Premier League games 4-1 to Leicester City and Crystal Palace.
Defensively the Whites have looked weak, and the return of Phillips in midfield would make the Whites better in that particular area.
However, the injury to Hernandez is a blow. The Spaniard, who is also able to play as a winger, is a very creative player who knows the Premier League inside out, and against a big club such as Arsenal, his presence even on the substitutes’ bench would have been beneficial.
