James Charles appears in YouTube video with the D’Amelio family
On November 16th, a new video was posted to the D’Amelio family YouTube channel titled: “Our First Mystery Guest, Dinner With The D’Amelios.”
In the video, Dixie, Charli and their parents Marc and Heidi had dinner with beauty YouTuber and social media star James Charles, chatting about a number of different topics at the same time.
They ate a meal cooked by personal chef Aaron May. Little did they know, this video would cause a whole load of internet drama.
Charli and Dixie D’Amelio get ‘cancelled’ online
After the video was posted, Charli and Dixie began being ‘cancelled’ as fans branded them ‘rude’, ‘ungrateful’ and ‘lacking manners’. But what did they do wrong?
In the dinner party video, the D’Amelios and James sat and ate a Spanish paella. Behind the scenes, the team decided to make Dixie eat a snail to try and get a reaction from her.
Dixie tried the snail and then threw up at the table before going outside to throw up again. Charli then said “do we have any dino nuggets?” and fans thought the way they treated the chef was unacceptable.
As well as the drama surrounding the food, Charli is also being ‘cancelled’ for something else she said in the video regarding her TikTok followers.
She said “I wish I had more time. Imagine if I hit 100 million a year after hitting 1 million” and fans have given her backlash for ‘complaining’ about not having enough followers.
Since then, Charli D’Amelio has lost between 500,000 and 1 million followers, and she took to Instagram live to discuss the huge amount of hate she’s been receiving.
James Charles defends Charli D’Amelio
James Charles has taken to Twitter to defend Charli following the nasty hate messages she’s been receiving.
“This charli situation is NOT sitting right with me… 100M followers in one year & y’all expect her to know how to be a perfect role model? death threats because she’s a picky eater & made a joke about a milestone? 30+ year olds dragging someone half their age? feels familiar.”
James supported Charli, claiming that she’s only been a big social media star for a year and fans shouldn’t expect her to be “perfect” all the time.
