Fans may not have been anticipating a sequel to The Adventures of Sharkboy and Lavagirl in 3-D. Nevertheless, it’s on the way!

Directed by Robert Rodriguez and starring Taylor Dooley and Taylor Lautner, the 2005 film has developed somewhat of a cult following over the years, offering those who saw it back in the day a wave of colourful nostalgia.

Now, Robert is back in the director’s chair for We Can be Heroes.

It will be released on Netflix on Friday, January 1st 2020 and sees Taylor Dooley reprising the role of Lavagirl. However, Taylor Lautner isn’t back as Sharkboy, with JJ Dashnaw stepping in to tackle the part.

Robert Rodriguez has confirmed that “Sharkboy and Lavagirl show up as superhero parents who now have a daughter who has shark and lava powers.”

  • Vivien Lyra Blair is a young actress who stars in We Can be Heroes as Guppy, Sharkboy and Lavagirl’s daughter.

The 2021 sequel will centre on the children of superheroes tasked with rescuing their parents after they’re abducted by alien invaders.

While striving to save them, they’re also confronted with the mammoth task of saving Earth as they know it.

The 8-year-old American actress plays a central role in the project along with a host of other child actors who, in turn, are joined by such big names as Christian Slater, Priyanka Chopra, Pedro Pascal, Sung Kang, Boyd Holbrook and more.

We Can be Heroes won’t mark the first time Netflix audiences are seeing her on-screen…

Audiences may be most familiar with Vivien thanks to her role as the young girl in the 2018 film Bird Box starring Sanda Bullock.

However, this wasn’t her debut performance.

According to IMDb, she first appeared on screens in the 2017 film Band Aid (she played Isis). Directed by Zoe Lister-Jones, the films centres on a couple who, in attempts to save their marriage, start a band and channel their anger into songwriting.

She also starred in episodes of the 2019 TV series Waco (Serenity Jones).

Other TV work includes Station 19 (Penny), Indebted (Hazel) and the 2019 TV movie The Play Date (Lila).

Looking ahead, she’s also scheduled to star in a 2021 coming-of-age drama called Dear Zoe (Emily Gladstone) with Sadie Sink, of Stranger Things fame.
