Rangers are looking strong this season, but Steven Gerrard will still be looking for any extra edge to win the Scottish Premiership title.

The Gers currently sit top of the Scottish Premiership table with a nine-point lead over Celtic, and will now hope to clinch the title following a superb start to the campaign.

January additions may just push Rangers over the line, and even with Bongani Zungu on board, Rangers continue to be linked with a new midfielder in Kenny McLean.

However, there’s another ex-Rangers midfielder that should be on the Gers radar instead – Aberdeen ace Lewis Ferguson.

The 21-year-old spent four years in the Rangers setup, but was released in 2013 at the age of just 14, and then made a name for himself at Hamilton Academical.

Now at Aberdeen, Ferguson has been in superb form this season, smashing nine goals and three assists in his first 15 games of the campaign.

Ferguson may not be the flashiest target, but he is a versatile midfielder, able to protect his back four, play box-to-box or in a more advanced role, possessing athletic ability and real aggression.

Add in his goals and Ferguson is a well-rounded prospect, and he has the added affinity of being a Rangers fan, whilst ex-Rangers men Derek and Barry Ferguson are his father and uncle respectively.

With Steven Davis out of contract at the end of the season, Rangers may well need to think about a midfielder for the future, and having let Ferguson leave more than seven years ago, they should certainly consider bringing him back now.
