Gabby Agbonlahor told talkSPORT (17/11/20 at 9:15 am) that Aston Villa midfielder John McGinn ‘doesn’t get enough credit as he deserves’.

One pivotal turning point for Villa last season was McGinn getting injured at Southampton and then going on to miss large parts of the campaign.

That hurt Villa because if there is anyone that can match or better Jack Grealish then it’s McGinn – the proof is the fact that he was the one who was named the club’s Player of the Season when they earned promotion to the Premier League.

McGinn did return to action when football restarted, but he was still getting back up to pace, but as Agbonlahor explains, he has been back to his best during this campaign.

“He came back from an injury last season and it took him a while to get back up to form,” said Agbonlahor. “But, for me, he’s that guy who doesn’t get enough credit as he deserves.

“I was at the Southampton game at Villa Park and I was watching him. Every time there was a foul, he was starting it off quick and hungry to get the team back into the game.

“I feel like he has been outstanding this season as well and he has been one of Villa’s best players, for sure.”

Whilst Grealish provides the flair, the ball-carrying ability and that soft touch to the game. McGinn adds power, aggression and the ability to drive with the ball from deep.

The Scotsman, who signed for the club in 2018, has this great knack of letting the ball roll, putting himself between man and ball, using his strength and backside to hold off the opponent before winning the duel in question.

Not only that, he has a sweet left foot which has delivered some memorable goals during his time at the club, including THAT volley against Sheffield Wednesday.
