Snapchat users are claiming that their accounts have been permanently locked when they haven’t done anything wrong. Is there a way to unlock your account?
Over the past day, Twitter has been flooded with reports of a Snapchat error, with users claiming that the app has locked their account for no reason.
It seems to be happening to thousands of accounts, and users have been tweeting Snapchat directly to try and get some answers.
Lots of Snapchat users have had their account locked
Since Monday (November 16th), many Snapchat users have been taking to Twitter to seek help as they claim that their account had been locked for no reason.
When trying to log into their account, users have been reporting an error message that says “oh no! Your account has been locked” alongside a link to an information page on the Snapchat website.
Some accounts are being temporarily locked, whilst others are being permanently locked, and Twitter users have been using the hashtag #UnlockOurSnaps to get a response from Snapchat.
Why has my account been locked?
There are a number of different reasons why your account could have been locked which are all outlined on the Snapchat website. These include:
- Using a third-party app, plugin or tweak to access Snapchat or Snapchat services.
- Sending spam, unsolicited Snaps or messages in Chat or displaying other abusive behaviour.
- Adding too many friends when you haven’t verified your email or phone number.
- Snapchat has detected that your account might be compromised and has initiated a protective lock.
On the official website, Snapchat says: “If your Snapchat account has been locked, it may mean we’ve detected some activity from your account that we prohibit. This is done to keep Snapchat fun and safe for everyone.”
However, many users are claiming that they haven’t done any of these things, and their account has been locked for no reason at all.
How to fix a locked Snapchat account
If your account has been locked, Snapchat suggests that you wait 24 hours and then try to log in again.
However, if your account has been permanently locked, there is unfortunately no way to recover your account. You will be completely banned from using Snapchat services, and the only way to use the platform again would be to make a new account.
