Speaking to Kicker (Via The Sun), Hertha Berlin’s Sporting director Michael Preetz has hinted that the Bundesliga club are planning on signing Matteo Guendouzi on a permanent basis next summer.
The 6 ft 1 midfielder is spending this season on loan in the German capital, and it seems as though he’s certainly impressing the higher-ups at Hertha.
Preetz was quick to praise how Guendouzi has enriched the club’s game, and when asked about the potential permanent signing he’s said that we’ll see next summer, hinting that there is interest on their end.
“Three months ago, Matteo’s loan signing wasn’t possible, but it was at the beginning of October.
“We are happy that he is here and that he enriched our game from the start.
“We’ll see everything else next summer. How the prices will develop by then and what Arsenal are planning then, nobody can say today.”
This is a really tough decision for Arsenal to make.
On one hand, Guendouzi has fallen out with Arteta and it looks as though the Spaniard doesn’t want him anymore, but at the same time, he’s clearly a talented young player who shouldn’t just be cast aside.
Realistically, it depends on how much money Berlin are willing to put up to sign the Frenchman.
It’s clear that there is interest from Germany, but the ball is still in Arsenal’s court as Guendouzi remains under contract at the Emirates for the foreseeable future.
This may end up being a transfer saga worth keeping an eye on.
