Where is Ray Ray McElrathbey now? The Disney+ movie Safety is based on the life of the former Clemson player and he has offered his thoughts.

Many have felt Disney+ gradually become a household essential over the course of 2020, offering a vast array of old content along with new shows like The Mandalorian.

For the sports fans, on the other hand, Safety boasts quite the appeal.

Directed by Reginald Hudlin, the film is based on the story of Ray McElrathbey, played by Jay Reeves.

It chronicles his hard work and determination to play football on a Clemson University scholarship.

Greenville News notes that Ray was a redshirt freshman special teams player for Clemson football at the age of 19 in 2006, the same year his mother went to rehab for drug addiction.

He took custody of his-11-year-old brother, Fahmarr, and a trust fund was set up by those around him to ensure he could make it to campus from their apartment.

The previous source adds that he moved from defence to offence in the fall of 2006 and tore his ACL in the summer of 2007, with a Greenville News piece noting that the injury required “season-ending surgery”.

Clemson did not renew his scholarship in spring 2008 but he was offered an assistant coaching position. He earned his undergraduate degree the same year and then went to Howard University’s graduate school, playing for Howard Bison for one year.
