Netflix has been on somewhat of a roll this year, enticing audiences of all genres with a vast array of newly unveiled titles.

Film fans have been invited to tuck into the likes of I’m Thinking of Ending Things, The Devil All the Time and more, while TV efforts like The Queen’s Gambit have left many thoroughly hooked.

On the other hand, attention is now firmly on the return of The Crown.

Created by Peter Morgan, the series stemmed from his 2006 film The Queen and serves as a royal biopic.

Season 1 arrived on the streaming service in 2016 and since then, a number of viewers have hailed it as one of Netflix’s very best shows.

As its reputation has grown, more famous faces have come abroad to bring the period to life and season 4 ushers in 52-year-old American actress Gillian Anderson as former PM Margaret Thatcher.

Who plays Mark Thatcher in The Crown?

  • In the Crown season 4, Mark Thatcher is played by 31-year-old English actor Freddie Fox.

Mark is the twin brother of Carol Thatcher and is now a 67-year-old British Businessman. The Crown, however, sees Mark go missing during the 1982 Paris-Dakar motor rally, as noted by the Radio Times.

The previous source includes that – at the time of his disappearance – he was considered “one of Britain’s most eligible bachelors, with constant popular press speculation about his girlfriends”, according to The Times on 14th January 1982.

Now, let’s focus on Freddie, who brings Mark to the screen. Audiences may remember him from a popular 2020 mini-series…

Freddie Fox: Previous roles

According to IMDb, Freddie has performed in such films as Victor Frankenstein (Finnegan), The Three Musketeers (King Louis) and King Arthur: Legend of the Sword (Rubio).

Over on the small screen, you may remember him from Year of the Rabbit (Wilbur Strauss) and Cucumber (Freddie Baxter).

However, this year he impressed audiences in the 2020 mini-series The Murders at White House Farm, portraying Jeremy Bamber.

He comes from a family of actors

Freddie’s mother is Joanna David and she has starred in the likes of Downton Abbey (she played the Duchess of Yeovil), Bleak House (Mrs. Badger), the 1995 Pride and Prejudice mini-series (Mrs. Gardiner) and First Among Equals (Elizabeth Kerslake).

Then we have Edward Fox, Freddie’s father.

He has showcased his talents in the likes of 1973’s The Day of the Jackal, (The Jackal), Gandhi (General Dyer) and Never Say Never Again (M).

Additionally, he has done some TV work in efforts like Taboo (Horace Delaney) and Inspector Lewis (Dr Yardley).

That’s not all though…

His sister is Emilia Fox, star of the 2002 film The Pianist (Dorota) and others like Dorian Gray (Lady Victoria Wotton) and Cashback (Sharon).
