Leeds United, Newcastle and Crystal Palace are already planning to sign Conor Gallagher next summer with Chelsea already receiving offers for their £10 million midfielder, according to The Sun (15 November, page 62).
It is easy to forget the England U21 international was plying his trade at reserve-team level just 18 months ago.
Because Chelsea’s 2019 Academy Player of the Year has made the step up to the professional game look simple indeed, shining on loan at Swansea City and Charlton Athletic before joining West Bromwich Albion on a 12-month deal in September.
Gallagher has looked a cut above at the Hawthorns so far too, rattling the post with the kind of long-range rocket he has made his trademark during the unfortunate 1-0 defeat to Tottenham last time out.
And The Sun reports that, despite playing just 400 minutes for West Brom so far, Chelsea are already receiving numerous enquiries for Gallagher with the likes of Leeds, Newcastle and Palace planning to sign him in 2021.
Interestingly, all three clubs were linked before he joined the Baggies two months ago.
Clearly, the Premier League trio have been watching his performances under Slaven Bilic like a hawk.
Crystal Palace have made a conscious effort to inject some youth into an ageing squad of late and the £10 million-rated Gallagher would fit in nicely alongside Eberechi Eze, Nathan Ferguson and co at Selhurst Park.
If Newcastle win the race, however, Gallagher would add some thrust to a midfield that looks as useful as the proverbial chocolate teapot at times.
