According to The Mirror (15/11, p75), Darren Fletcher is ‘likely’ to join Wayne Rooney at Derby County as he chases the managerial job.
The Rams parted ways with Philllip Cocu on Saturday afternoon, and the search for a new manager is now on.
Rooney will likely be the favourite for the job, and has been placed in interim charge alongside Shay Given, Liam Rosenior and Justin Walker.

This would be Rooney’s first managerial job, and he could bring in former Manchester United teammate Fletcher to help him if he is appointed as Cocu’s replacement.
Fletcher racked up almost 350 appearances for United, and played alongside Rooney for nearly 15 years in a successful stint together at Old Trafford.

Since leaving Stoke City in 2019, Fletcher has been coaching with United at youth level alongside punditry duties, but could now land his first major coaching role with Derby.
Rooney would seemingly want to bring in a coach of his own if he does become Cocu’s replacement, and Fletcher is thought to be a leading contender.
Rooney, Given, Rosenior and Fletcher have bags of Premier League experience from the peak of their playing days, and they would be charged with the task of taking Derby back to the top flight – something Cocu was some way off achieving.
