Tottenham fans on Twitter have been lauding Harry Winks for his performance against Ireland on Thursday evening.
The midfielder started for the Three Lions in midweek, and he put on a stellar showing, much to the delight of Tottenham supporters.
The 24-year-old has had something of a shaky start to the season in north London, starting just three league games for Jose Mourinho’s side so far in the league, but against the Republic of Ireland he showed his quality.
Winks grabbed an assist for the national team’s opening goal, and he also played a part in Jadon Sancho’s effort that made it 2-0.
Understandably, Spurs fans were watching with a keen eye, and it’s fair to say that some of them were mightily impressed by what they saw.
One supporter went as far as to compare him to Andres Iniesta, while another urged Mourinho to give him more of a chance in Tottenham’s XI.
This performance for England could give Winks the confidence he needs to kick on and force Mourinho into giving him more opportunities at Tottenham.
For now, Winks’ focus should be on England’s next game against Belgium on Sunday, and if he repeats the good showing we saw against Ireland, Mourinho may have no choice but to sit up and take notice.
