Ruslan Malinovskyi’s agent has handed fresh hope to Leeds United by playing down speculation linking the Atalanta dynamo with Inter Milan, as reported by FC Inter News.
It says a lot about the quality in Gian Piero Gasperini’s midfield that perhaps the finest Ukrainian footballer of his generation is far from a guaranteed starter in Bergamo.
Since the beginning of last season, Malinovskyi has been included in the XI for just 15 of Atalanta’s 45 Serie A matches.
But if La Dea are ‘suffering’ from a surplus of creativity in central areas, the opposite is true of a stodgy Inter side stuck in a seemingly endless cycle of stalemates.
Inter have recorded five draws in their last seven matches in all competitions.
Hence Malinovskyi, who still produced nine goals and seven assists last term despite his lack of starts, was linked with the Nerazzurri before this weekend’s 1-1 Serie A draw between Atalanta and Antonio Conte’s side.
According to the former Genk star’s agent, however, a move to the San Siro isn’t on the cards right now.
“I have read a lot of things in the press in recent days,” Sergiy Serebrennikov explains.
“I don’t know if Inter has contacted Atalanta but, at the moment, I haven’t talked to the Nerazzurri managers.
“Inter is a top club with great traditions and Antonio Conte is an excellent coach. I can only say positive things about them.
“But, at the moment, there is nothing concrete.”
With his V8 engine, defence-splitting abilities and competence in a number of midfield roles, Malinovskyi looks tailor made for a Marcelo Bielsa side that showed an interest in striking a £20 million deal recently (Telegraph).
Leeds spent more than £100 million on players during the summer but the dynamic, box-to-box enforcer Bielsa wanted never arrived.
So with January just weeks away, Malinovskyi could soon be the talk of West Yorkshire.
