Liverpool will hand new contracts to both Virgil van Dijk and Fabinho in the near future, Fabrizio Romano has said on the Here We Go Podcast.
Van Dijk and Fabinho are currently out injured for Liverpool, but Jurgen Klopp has decided that he wants to tie the pair down for the future.
The Reds will now enter contract discussions with them in the coming months.
“Liverpool will talk to Van Dijk’s agents as soon as he recovers from his injury,” Romano said.
“I expect that they will begin negotiations for a new contract in March. Same for Fabinho.”
Fabinho’s contract offer could come a long time before Van Dijk’s, if he is to be given new terms upon his return to fitness.
The Brazilian is expected to be back in action soon for Liverpool, which will be a massive boost, given their growing injury list.
Van Dijk, on the other hand, is set to miss the rest of the season – so his new contract may not be signed for some time yet.
Neither of Fabinho’s or Van Dijk’s current deals expire imminently, but Liverpool’s desire to tie two of their key players down for the long-term is very much understandable.
