Ian Wright told Wright’s House Podcast that Aston Villa’s Douglas Luiz could become ‘one of the best midfield players in the Premier League’.

The former Arsenal striker shared that Villa’s £15 million signing [BBC Sport] is ‘so underrated’ as he praised him for how he performed on Sunday.

Dean Smith’s men dispatched the Gunners 3-0 at the Emirates Stadium, with Luiz playing an integral part in the number six role.

“The movement Villa have got upfront and with their natural swag now,” said Wright. “They have got defenders and midfielders who are ready [to go the next level].

“Someone like Douglas Luiz he is ready to be one of the best midfield players in the Premier League. He is so underrated, at the minute.

“They blasted us [on Sunday]. We had no chance. It was men against boys.”

Since football restarted, it could be argued that Luiz has been Villa’s best player because he was without a doubt their best performer towards the back end of last season.

Given how the Midlands side have started the campaign, the likes of Jack Grealish, Ross Barkley, Matty Cash, Ezri Konsa and Ollie Watkins, to name a few can all realistically claim to be Villa’s best performer since this season started.

Either way, anything is possible for this Villa side and the club’s risk to buy potential and potential only last summer is now paying off.
