Thomas Partey has been crushing the perception that some Arsenal fans had of him this season.
The Gunners spent £45 million on bringing the Ghana international to North London from Atletico Madrid last month.
And although it’s still early days, it looks like Arsenal might have found a brilliant player.
When he arrived, it was thought that Partey was a no-nonsense defensive midfielder with far more steel than silk.
But five games into Arsenal career under Mikel Arteta, it’s clear that the 27-year-old is a much better footballer than many supporters gave him credit for prior to arriving.
In addition to being a powerhouse midfielder, he has shown some exquisite touches and passes so far, not to mention the capacity to accelerate away from players during one of his adventures forward.
And Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has admitted that he’s been blown away by Partey’s quality so far, highlighting his strength and footballing talent as something that Arsenal have greatly missed.
He told the club’s official website: “He is so strong physically but yet so good on the ball as well.
“We didn’t really have a profile like this in our squad before. In terms of ball progression, beating the press, going forward, he will be very important for us.”
Partey came off injured at half-time during the Gunners’ 3-0 demolition by Aston Villa on Sunday night.
It remains to be seen how long he’ll be absent for, but the fact that he is missing Ghana’s international fixtures over the next two weeks is an indication that it’s nothing he’s going to run off.
