Glenn Hoddle has told the Glenn Hoddle Show podcast that Leeds United striker Patrick Bamford was seriously hard done by at the weekend.
Bamford was adjudged to have been offside in Leeds’ game against Crystal Palace and saw his goal chalked off in the most frustrating of circumstances.
Bamford was pointing where he wanted the ball to play through, and because his arm was outstretched beyond the last defender, he was ultimately deemed to be in an offside position.
The Leeds’ striker’s feet were clearly behind the line of the Palace defence, but a new law which has been implemented this season meant that the officials simply had to disallow the goal.
And Hoddle feels that the law must be changed to stop a similar scenario occurring in the future.
“It’s ridiculous,” the former England boss raged. “What have players got to do now? They’ve got to run with their arms behind their back. It’s sad really. It’s going to ruin the game.
“He’s pointing where he wants the ball and whether it’s his arm or his shirt sleeve, you can’t score with your arm.
“These things have got to be ironed out. They have to come to some understanding.”
Bamford still ended up getting on the scoresheet for Leeds at the weekend, but his goal ended up only being a consolation.
The Whites were well beaten at Selhurst Park, as they slipped to their second 4-1 defeat in succession.
Leeds are now in 15th place in the Premier League table, and return to action with a game against Arsenal after the international break.
