Rangers boss Steven Gerrard has told the Daily Record that Bongani Zungu may be in contention to play against Hamilton Academical today.
The Gers are back in league action this afternoon, as they host Hamilton at Ibrox just days after their 3-3 Europa League draw at Benfica.
Rangers may make changes to freshen up their side, and new signing Zungu may be hoping for some first-team action.
The South African international joined Rangers on loan from Amiens on deadline day day last month, but has been forced to wait for his debut.
Zungu, 28, arrived short of match sharpness, and Rangers have now spent a month trying to get him ready for match action.
Now, Gerrard claims that Zungu is ‘closer’ to playing than ever before, and noted that he is available for this afternoon’s game.

Gerrard added that Zungu’s attitude has been ‘fantastic’ having been given extra work in training, meaning he is very close to action – even if it may just be from the bench today
“I am looking to get Bongani involved as soon as possible and he is available for the match at the weekend. He is very much closer in terms of him getting towards his level,” said Gerrard.
“We have been trying to accelerate that and giving him extra work and top-ups after training. His application and his attitude has been fantastic. We trained over the last couple of days after getting back from Portugal and we will make a decision but he is getting close,” he added.
