Everton’s Mason Holgate has been spotted in training at Finch Farm ahead of the Toffees’ clash with Manchester United this weekend.

The former Barnsley defender hasn’t played since suffering a toe injury in Everton’s final pre-season game, which came against Preston on September 5th as The Liverpool Echo report.

That injury has seen him sat on the sidelines for 62 days as of today, but now, it looks like Holgate might be nearing a return to action.

The 24-year-old – who earns £25,000-a-week according to Spotrac – will be very much welcome in Carlo Ancelotti’s squad, which isn’t exactly jam-packed with defenders.

Here he is looking focused in training alongside Yerry Mina, shielding the ball from the towering Colombia international at Finch Farm.

Recently, the Italian has been forced to use new signing Ben Godfrey – a centre-back by trade – at right-back occasionally in both Seamus Coleman and Holgate’s absence.

Of course, the latter is also more of a centre-back by trade having made 80 appearances in that role throughout his career.

However, he has also made 57 appearances at right-back, whereas Godfrey has made just six outings at right-back.

Jonjoe Kenny started Everton’s last game against Newcastle, but regardless of that, Ancelotti will welcome the versatile Holgate back seeing as he’s a more experienced option.
