Vincent Janssen’s career might not have gone how he had hoped when he was handed his big break at Tottenham Hotspur four years ago.
But while the Dutchman will be forever remembered for that disastrous spell in North London, scoring just twice in 31 Premier League games while making a mockery of that £18 million price-tag, Janssen is at least enjoying some form of redemption across the Atlantic.
A 1-0 triumph over Tijuana this week means Monterrey have secured an historic treble, becoming only the second Mexican team to hold the league, the domestic cup and the CONCACAF Champions League titles at the very same time.
After a miserable couple of years, who could begrudge Janssen his moment in the sun?
The former AZ Alkmaar talisman was the hero as Monterrey sealed the treble in a nervy Mexican Cup final today, scoring the only goal of the game from the penalty spot.

In 43 matches, Janssen has netted a respectable 13 goals. Hardly prolific but, when you consider that he found the net just 11 times in three years between 2016 and 2019, it’s about time the hulking targetman found a semblance of form in the final third.
Tottenham made an £8 million loss when cutting their losses on Monterrey back in 2019 (The Sun).
And while eyebrows were raised when the Rayados paid £10 million for a man who had clattered into rock bottom in England, Janssen now looks like the very definition of an inspired piece of business.
