Some Wigan Athletic supporters are calling on their side to call up Sean McGurk – and keep him away from Leeds United.
McGurk scored twice in Wigan’s 5-0 Youth Cup win against Harrogate Town on Tuesday to increase the hype around his name.
The 17-year-old midfielder was recently linked with a January move to Leeds, with The Sun reporting that the Whites will try again to sign him after a failed summer attempt.
That is despite the fact that McGurk has yet to make a single appearance at senior level.
But that could soon change if the following Wigan fans get their wish…
Leeds have already signed McGurk’s former teammate Joe Gelhardt and the latter has wasted little time impressing at Elland Road.
Gelhardt scored his second and third goals in seven games for Leeds Under-23s on Sunday – the last a superbly-taken solo effort.
And McGurk appeared to like what he saw, commenting as follows:
McGurk is one of several talented youngsters who have recently caught the eye in Wigan’s youth ranks.
But the Latics were forced to sell two of those, Jensen Weir and Alfie Devine to Brighton & Hove Albion and Tottenham Hotspur respectively, this summer, in addition to Gelhardt to Leeds.
