According to Goal, Barcelona prodigy Pedri – who rejected Liverpool in the summer – has a £360 million release clause in his contract with Barcelona.

Mundo Deportivo revealed that Jurgen Klopp’s side missed out on the 17-year-old along with Real Madrid, Atletico Madrid, Borussia Dortmund, Manchester City, Valencia, Sevilla and Real Betis.

Barcelona eventually landed the teenager for just €5 million (£4.5 million), and they aren’t messing around by whacking such an astronomical release clause on his head.

That news will presumably come as a blow to Liverpool if the Reds had any hope of signing him in future – surely no club will go near that buy-out clause.

What the huge sum does prove is that Barcelona clearly hold their summer signing in high regard.

Mundo Deportivo state that the Catalans see Pedri as a future Iniesta, while Sport have revealed that the club have a Philippe Coutinho vision for him.

Just like the Brazilian did while on loan at Bayern Munich, Barcelona want Pedri to beef up and add some muscle to his slender frame.

Sport say that Coutinho shared a similar physical profile to the youngster before moving to the Allianz Arena, where he then returned a different man.

Sport’s report also mentions that the Spanish teenager lives with his brother, a trained chef, so the nutritional aspect of his development should presumably go well.

By all accounts of Pedri’s talent, Liverpool will presumably be kicking themselves that they couldn’t land him during the summer.
