Michael Owen has told BT Sport, during their live Champions League coverage, that he was shocked by just how fast Liverpool’s Diogo Jota is.

Jota caught the eye last night as he continued his fine form in a Liverpool shirt, with the Reds beating Atalanta 5-0 in the Champions League.

Jota scored a hat-trick on the night, as he tormented the Italian side’s defence.

And Owen was stunned by just how fast Jota was, as he constantly got in behind the Atalanta backline.

“What I was impressed with there with Jota is that he’s quicker than I thought,” Owen said. “He’s very quick. Tonight you saw him running in behind and awful lot.”

Jota’s goals were all well taken, but his pace was really highlighted for his third.

The summer signing burst clear of the back-line, before taking a touch beyond the keeper, and rolling the ball into an empty net with his left-foot.

Jota’s form is now putting Roberto Firmino’s place in Liverpool’s line-up under serious pressure.

Firmino has monopolised Liverpool’s striking spot in recent years, but Jota has proven to be a bigger goal scoring threat than the Brazilian, and Klopp must now be tempted to start the former Wolves man against Manchester City on Sunday.
