A video of Joe Biden introducing his granddaughter as his son Beau Biden has emerged online.
The 2020 US election campaign has been one of the most chaotic, exhausting and fiercely fought in living memory.
Donald Trump and Joe Biden have been battling it out for weeks on their respective campaign trails and now the world watches on as votes continue to be counted and the results are finalised.
But during the post-election commentary, a video has emerged online of Joe Biden making an apparent blunder when introducing his granddaughter to a crowd of supporters as his son, Beau.
Joe Biden introduces his granddaughter as son Beau
When meeting a crowd of supporters in the key state of Pennsylvania on election day, Joe Biden could be seen introducing members of his family on a CNN news clip.
However, when attempting to introduce his granddaughter, Natalie, Joe Biden instead said: “This is my son, Beau Biden, who a lot of you helped elect to the senate in Delaware.”
Biden’s comments caused confusion among viewers as his son, Delaware’s former attorney general Beau Biden, passed away in 2015 at the age of 46 after being diagnosed with brain cancer.
The Democratic presidential candidate apparently corrected himself, saying: “This is my granddaughter, Natalie.”
A moment later, however, Joe Biden could be heard joking “no wait, got the wrong one” as he had actually called his other granddaughter, Finnegan, by Natalie’s name.
Explained: Natalie is Beau Biden’s daughter
The reason for the apparent error in introducing his granddaughter as Beau seems to stem from the fact that Natalie is Beau Biden’s daughter.
It’s very likely that Joe Biden was attempting to introduce Natalie as Beau’s daughter but mixed his words up.
However, the matter was confused further as Joe Biden also muddled up his two granddaughters, calling Finnegan Biden, the daughter of his other son Hunter, by Natalie’s name.
Later on in the CNN clip above, Joe Biden manages to introduce Natalie and Finnegan correctly, clearing up the confusion.
“This [Natalie] is Beau’s daughter and we’re out campaigning together,” Joe Biden explained before introducing Finnegan as Hunter’s daughter.
The final day of voting in the 2020 US election took place on November 3rd, 2020.
