Celtic are ‘very interested’ in signing Mohamed Magdy Afsha but Al Ahly are not exactly keen to let the midfielder leave for the Scottish Premiership champions, his agent has told King Fut.
It is a month now since Abdul Ramen Ismael first suggested to the Daily Record that the Hoops had been asking about his highly-rated client.
And, four weeks on, Afsha’s agent has provided an update with the January transfer window looming on the horizon.
Though with Al Ahly fully focused on the CAF Champions League final on November 27, it seems that Celtic will have to put negotiations on the backburner until then.
“Celtic are very interested in the services of Al Ahly’s Mohamed Magdy Afsha,” Ismael explains. “Celtic want to sign Afsha and then loan him out to a European club.
“However, Al Ahly is against the idea of letting the player go especially as they are preparing for the CAF Champions League final.”

It remains to be seen how the Egyptian giants feel about letting Afsha go after that crunch clash three weeks from now.
Perhaps they will be willing to let the diminutive playmaker go if Celtic come calling in January.
Ismael’s suggestion that Celtic want to loan Afsha out also raises a few more questions.
Is this due to a potential work permit problem? Or do the Hoops feel that the 24-year-old would struggle to adapt straight away to the hustle and bustle of Scottish football?
