On Sunday November 1st, prominent EDL founder Tommy Robinson was arrested at Speakers’ Corner in Hyde Park, as current COVID-19 guidelines ban gatherings of more than six people.
As reported by the Daily Mail, the gathering was in support for Hatun Tash, an activist who claims she was attacked for showing a cartoon image of the Prophet Mohammed depicted as a baby, which some found offensive.
Who is Hatun Tash?
Hatun Tash is a Christian preacher who regularly engages with muslims at Speakers’ Corner and in mosques in “Christian-Muslim discussion” according to the European Leadership Forum.
Speakers’ Corner is an area in Hyde Park dedicated to open-air speeches and debates, often used during rallies and protests.

Hatun Tash identifies as an evangelist Christian, and is also director of the DCCI Ministries (Defend Christianity, Critique Islam). According to their own website, the DCCI Ministries seeks to “preach the Gospel to Muslims using apologetics and polemics.”
The DCCI attend Speakers Corner every Sunday to engage with people about their beliefs, as reported by the All Souls website.

In October of this year, Hatun Tash was allegedly punched by a Muslim preacher at Speakers’ Corner after she showed a cartoon of the Prophet Muhammed.
In a video of the event, Hatun can be seen holding up the cartoon image while debating people. Shortly after that, she gets hit in the face.
In September, Hatun was reportedly escorted out of the park by police due to fear for her safety, leading to social media debates around free speech at Speakers’ Corner.
