According to The Chronicle, Newcastle United think they have made an ‘excellent’ signing by bringing Rodrigo Vilca to St James’ Park.
Newcastle made five first-team signings over the summer, with Mark Gillespie, Jamal Lewis, Jeff Hendrick, Ryan Fraser and Callum Wilson all arriving.
They then landed a signing for the future, as Peruvian talent Vilca joined from Deportivo Municipal before the European deadline.
Little was known about the 21-year-old when he made his move; he had been in great form for Deportivo Municipal, bagging three goals and three assists in his final 13 games for the club.
Newcastle paid a paltry £280,000 to bring Vilca to Tyneside, a fee that has been slated by many figures in Peruvian football.
This report now states that Newcastle think Vilca is an ‘excellent’ signing, believing that he is a bargain and could be a star of the future.

The playmaker is currently turning out for Newcastle’s Under-23’s, and recently impressed in a 2-1 win over Fulham to leave fans excited.
Having seen compatriot Nobby Solano become a hero at Newcastle in the past, Vilca will now be hoping to follow suit – and their faith in him is a huge step in the right direction for the youngster.
