Newcastle United picked up a big home win this afternoon, beating Everton 2-1 at St James’ Park.
Steve Bruce’s style of play has been brought into question following the 1-1 draw at Wolverhampton Wanderers last week, but he claimed a win today.
The opener came in the second half, as Callum Wilson was brought down inside the penalty area by Andre Gomes, and he stepped up to score from the spot himself.
Newcastle then hit Everton on the counter attack, as Ryan Fraser raced clear of Yerry Mina before picking out Wilson to make it 2-0.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin set up a tense finale by poking home Alex Iwobi’s cross, but Newcastle held on for a huge three points.
There were a number of impressive performances in the Newcastle side, and Jacob Murphy impressed again in a right-wing back role.

The Chronicle reported on Saturday that Rangers remain keen on signing Murphy, after Steven Gerrard missed out on landing the winger over the summer.
Murphy started at wing back today, and Newcastle fans took to Twitter to praise him, branding him ‘absolutely outstanding’ and ‘class’.
Others think that he is the right-wing back that Newcastle have been seeking, and certainly won’t want t lose him to Rangers after such an ‘excellent’ display.
