Over the Moon landed on Netflix on October 23rd, 2020.

The film tells the story of Fei Fei (Cathy Ang) who, with the help of new arrival Chin (Robert G. Chiu), builds a rocket to travel to the Moon in the hope of finding the mythical moon goddess, Chang’e (Phillipa Soo).

On their journey, Fei Fei and Chin discover a brand new world and learn a vital lesson along the way.

Just before the final credits roll for Over the Moon, a touching tribute to Audrey Wells appears on-screen and simply reads:

“In Loving Memory of Audrey Wells.”

Audrey Wells was a screenwriter, director and producer who passed away from cancer in October 2018 at the age of 58.

The tribute to Audrey Wells in Over the Moon is particularly significant as she wrote the film’s screenplay.

Over the Moon producer, Gennie Rim told Variety that Audrey Wells wrote Over the Moon as “a love letter to her daughter and for her husband.”

That fact is particularly poignant as the character of Fei Fei’s loses her own mother the in the film in a sequence that becomes even more heartbreaking when you learn about the real significance behind the scene.

Audrey Wells had an impressive career as a screenwriter and had a total of 11 writing credits to her name.

Her debut work was 1996’s The Truth About Cats & Dogs and following the film’s positive reception, she went on to pen the likes of 1997’s George of the Jungle, 2003’s Under the Tuscan Sun, 2007’s The Game Plan as well as A Dog’s Purpose and 2018’s hard-hitting The Hate U Give.
