Reported West Ham United and Burnley target Mohamed Simakan has poured cold water on speculation linking him with a £15 million move away from Strasbourg, in quotes reported by But Football Club.

The future of the 20-year-old centre-half continues to come under question on both sides of the Channel.

And with the January transfer window just seven weeks away, Strasbourg will once again brace themselves for yet more interest in a man who has just 26 Ligue 1 appearances under his belt.

The Sun reports Sean Dyche’s Burnley are interested, while West Ham could renew their interest after failing with a £15.5 million bid for a player who is valued closer to £18 million (Le10 Sport).

Not that Simakan was ever going to pour fuel on the fire when asked, once again, about his immediate future.

“It’s history, we’re not going to put it back on the table,” the Marseille-born youngster explains.

“Today, I feel good in Strasbourg and over time we will see what happens.”

Le10 Sport claims Southampton tried in vein to sign Simakan on the final day of the European transfer window on 5 October.

Chances of the Saints renewing their interest in the new year looks slim, however, with Jannik Vestergaard forcing his way back into Ralph Hasenhuttl’s starting XI.

Southampton also have summer signing Mohammed Salisu waiting in the wings.
