Irene drama explained

On Thursday (October 22nd), the word Irene was tweeted over 300,000 times after a whole load of K-pop drama erupted. If you saw the tweets but were a bit confused at what was going on, here’s all the drama explained.

The drama all started when a fashion stylist uploaded a post to Instagram claiming that a celebrity she had recently worked with had said very nasty words to her and brought her to tears.

She didn’t name who the celebrity was, but fans later found out that she was talking about Irene when the Red Velvet singer made a public apology.

Irene took to Instagram to apologise and said:

“This is Irene.
I am sincerely sorry for hurting the stylist with my foolish attitude and careless words and actions.
Getting to this spot involved help from many people who worked together with me, but my immature actions caused great hurt and I regret that and am reflecting.
I’ve been looking back on the past because of this, and I’ve felt very embarrassed because of my lacking words and actions and I once again feel how precious the staff are.
I will be more cautious about my actions in the future so that this does not happen again. I am sincerely sorry to the fans who support me and to everyone who has been caused concern because of this.”

Fans defend Irene

However, many fans have been defending Irene on social media, claiming that she didn’t need to make such a long apology as she didn’t do anything wrong.

Rumours on Twitter claim that the stylist had been helping Irene at one of the Red Velvet music concerts, but she hadn’t done a very good job at ensuring the singer was ready for her show, which is why Irene moaned at her.

Irene allegedly had to change outfit last minute, her ear piece fell out 10 seconds in, and fans claim she was also being electrocuted throughout the performance from her wires.

One Twitter user said: “Irene is literally still a human why are you bashing her for acting how a normal human does?”

Other stylists who have previously worked with Irene have also come out to defend the singer, claiming that she isn’t difficult or nasty to work with.

SM Entertainment also released a statement

Red Velvet’s management SM Entertainment also released a statement following the drama.

They said:

“This is SM Entertainment.
We are conveying our statement about the stylist’s online post regarding Irene.
Irene personally met with the stylist this afternoon and sincerely apologized for deeply hurting her with her careless attitude and emotional words and actions, and she feels sorry for causing concern with her immaturity.
Our agency feels responsible for this incident, and we do not forget the hard work of all the representatives and staff who work together with our company and our artists. We will work hard so that this does not happen again to the people we work with.
We once again apologize for causing concern to many people.”
