West Ham United goalkeeper Darren Randolph has hit out at Adrian’s critics on Instagram by saying ‘opinions don’t pay the bills’ after he helped Liverpool to a 1-0 win over Ajax in the Champions League.
Ever since Alisson’s injury, Adrian has deputised in between the sticks for the Brazilian, and it’s fair to say, he has had a tough time of it.
The unforgettable game was the 7-2 defeat to Aston Villa, where his mistake led to the opening goal, but he couldn’t do much about the rest.
Despite that, he has been on the end of criticism, including from Jamie Carragher recently, who felt he was shaky in Amsterdam last night [Read Here]
But Randolph, who is well aware of what the heat in the goalkeeping pressure cooker feels like, came to the aide of Liverpool’s stand-in shot-stopper.
He wrote on Adrian’s Instagram page: ‘Vamos Adri!! Confidence, belief and determination. Opinions don’t pay the bills. Keep up the good work amigo. Onwards and upwards’.
The issues Adrian has faced is that in a pretty normal situation, he does tend to add a level of nervousness, which doesn’t help anyone.
And whilst there is nothing wrong with his shot-stopping as a whole, his problems also lay at his feet and his inability to play out from the back.
Either way, he can only answer his critics one way and that’s by keeping clean sheets, which he did so on Liverpool’s opening night in the Champions League.
