A well known social media activist with over 240,000 followers on Instagram has died unexpectedly. Here’s exactly who he is.

Social media is being filled with tributes following the death of popular social media activist Collin Kartchner. The 40-year-old died completely unexpectedly, and his wife and children are mourning their loss on Instagram.

If you’ve never heard of Collin before, he’s most well known for spending the last few years campaigning to #SaveTheKids and stop children from using social media – here’s everything you need to know about him.

Who was Collin Kartchner?

Collin Kartchner was a videographer from Utah most well known for his social media activism in encouraging parents to keep their children away from social media.

In 2017, the 40-year-old started a satirical Instagram account to make fun of social media and use his profile for the greater good, raising money for people in need such as hurricane relief and helping children with cancer.

Then, in 2018 he launched his famous #SaveTheKids campaign to stop children from using social media as screen addiction can have a hugely negative effect on their mental and emotional health. 

He quickly gained 240,000 followers on Instagram, was invited to do his own TED Talk at TEDxSaltLakeCity in 2018 and also launched his own podcast.

Collin unexpectedly passed away aged 40

On Wednesday (October 21st), it was revealed that the Utah based activist had died at 40-years-old. The cause of his death is unknown, and he was not known to have any health conditions.

Collin’s wife Elizabeth announced the news on her Instagram where she posted four beautiful photos of her husband and said:

“My whole world is gone 💔 There is no god 💔 We’ve never known such pain 💔 He peacefully passed away unexpectedly due to natural causes in his beautiful body that we are unclear of yet.”

His death was completely unexpected and came as a shock to everyone.

Who are Collin’s wife and children?

Collin has a wife, Elizabeth Kartchner, who has her own craft blog Dear Lizzy, does online craft workshops and has released her own line of craft products.

The pair also had four children together, Avery, Quincey, Lola and Myles.

Elizabeth took to her Instagram Story to discuss how much she was struggling following the shock death of her husband, and also cleared up some rumours that had been circling the internet.

She confirmed that Collin had not killed himself and he died unexpectedly with his family around him.

“I’ve never known such pain. He was the greatest human on this earth,” she said.
