The former West Ham United striker Carlton Cole would welcome Arsenal’s Mesut Ozil at the London Stadium.
Ozil last played a competitive game for Arsenal in March and was left out of Mikel Arteta’s 25-man Premier League squad this week.
The Gunners paid Real Madrid more than £42 million for the German in 2013 and he has rewarded them with 121 goals or assists in 254 games [Transfermarkt].
And speaking to Talksport earlier this morning [22nd October at 08:15] Cole stated his belief that Arsenal would be better off with Ozil available.
Asked by the former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Jamie O’Hara if he would ‘have him (Ozil) at West Ham’, the 37-year-old replied: “Of course. Of course.
“West Ham have always liked those players anyway, those magician sort of players. They do like them. He is one of them ones
“I think Arsenal would have benefitted with him in the squad. I just don’t understand why he’s not in there.”
Ozil is in the final year of his contract at Arsenal, and could be available in January for a fee that is within West Ham’s transfer budget.
But the playmaker’s wages – reported to be £350,000-a-week – are likely to prove problematic, were the Hammers to develop an interest.
West Ham’s squad already contains attacking midfielder players such as Manuel Lanzini and Pablo Fornals.
