Why is A Charlie Brown Christmas cancelled on TV in 2020? Here’s how to watch the festive special this year and get into the Christmas spirit.

We all watch films throughout the year, whether seeing them for the first time or even the tenth.

However, there’s something of an unwritten rule: Christmas movies wait until November and December.

Some are even more strict, only rolling with such seasonal viewing throughout December.

Understandably, this means that there are a lot of favourites to squeeze in, whether we’re talking family classics like Home Alone and It’s a Wonderful Life or something a little different with Bad Santa, Krampus or Rare Exports.

There is an abundance of gems to choose from once the tree is up but arguably no Christmas would be complete without a viewing of the 1965 short, A Charlie Brown Christmas.

It’s a seasonal staple in most households but IGN notes that none of the Charlie Brown holiday specials will air on TV this year…

Why is A Charlie Brown Christmas cancelled on TV in 2020?

  • A Charlie Brown Christmas won’t be aired on TV in 2020 because it will be available to stream exclusively on Apple TV+.

IGN highlights that Apple TV+ has struck a deal with WildBrain, Peanuts Worldwide and Lee Mendelson Film Productions, making it the hub for “all things Peanuts”.

The previous source adds that the service will also offer “a slate of brand-new specials that will find the Peanuts gang marking Mother’s Day, Earth Day, New Year’s Eve, and Back to School.”

So, it’s worth considering a subscription if you’re a Peanuts fanatic.

How to watch the Charlie Brown Christmas special

As part of the team-up, they’re making A Charlie Brown Christmas available from Friday, December 4th.

Addressing how to watch it for free, IGN includes that it will be free to those who aren’t subscribed to Apple TV+ but only for a short time.

Over on Twitter, Peanuts confirmed that the Halloween special would screen for free on the streaming service from Friday, October 30th to Sunday, November 1st 2020.

Taking this into account, perhaps A Charlie Brown Christmas will be free from Thursday, December 24h to Saturday, December 26th 2020.

Alternatively, you can sign up and have access to the special along with a wealth of other content for the month and beyond.
