Tottenham fans have taken to Twitter to reveal that they think Joe Rodon’s height will help ease Jose Mourinho’s headache of conceding from opposition set-pieces.
So far this season, the north Londoners have struggled to deal with opponents launching balls into their box.
That specific issue led to Newcastle scoring a late equaliser on September 27th, when Andy Carroll headed the ball onto Eric Dier’s arm and Callum Wilson converted from the spot.
More recently, West Ham managed to snatch a point in similarly late fashion, after a freekick wasn’t cleared properly and Manuel Lanzini smashed in an equaliser.
It was also an issue when Dominic Calvert-Lewin headed in a Lucas Digne freekick on the opening day.
It is unlike a Mourinho side to be so fragile at the back, but Tottenham fans think Rodon’s height will help ease this issue.
While it may seem simplistic to say that the Welshman’s height will help stop Tottenham struggling to defend aerial balls, he is more than just a lump.
His aerial prowess is so good that Swansea fans even based their personal chant for Rodon off the back of his heading ability.
Sadly, we cannot reference the whole chant for you due to it containing an expletive, but put simply, the Swans supporters mention that if you threw a brick at Rodon, he’d head it back.
Let’s see what the Tottenham fans on Twitter have been saying about this topic.
Hoping Joe Rodon at 6ft 4 can help with that. Yes he is untried at this level but he can’t be any worse than our other options— Joel Clements (@joelclements) October 19, 2020
we need Rodon’s height in that backline as a temporary fix for now— Pranav🇺🇸🇮🇳🇬🇧 (@PMTHFC) October 19, 2020
Go with Dier and Rodon against Burnley like you said Dier is probably our best defender in the air and Rodon is 6’4 and also good in the air so could be the perfect first game for him to play in the premier league— John Bailey 🏴 (@JMBaileyCOYS) October 19, 2020
Could Rodon be the answer to our issues then? He’s 6”4 and good in the air— coysro (@coysro) October 19, 2020
We threw Tanganga in against the toughest opponents at a time when we were even worse. Rodon has more international caps than Tanganga has first team apps & he has over 50 first team apps to his name. Burnley will go airborne, he’s 6’4″. If not now then when?— Roy Allday (@AlldayRoy) October 19, 2020
Addition of our new CB Joe Rodon should help us in this department standing at 6’4 and winning 3.56 aerial duels/90 last season (Rodon>League average) which means he is dominant in the air which is something that spurs are crying out for as our players struggle in this department pic.twitter.com/TWE5MdzriL— Josh (Vile Little Boy) (@SuperiorSissoko) October 19, 2020
