Lovecraft Country came to an end in dramatic fashion on October 18th but fans have been left with asking ‘does Atticus die in Lovecraft Country?’

Lovecraft Country has been wowing audiences since it arrived on our screens in August.

The show’s blend of sci-fi and supernatural horror and the real-life horrors of racism have made the series essential viewing.

However, all good things must come to an end and the same can be said for Lovecraft Country, the final episode of which aired on October 18th on HBO.

The series finale, titled Full Circle has naturally left fans with plenty of questions after a mind-blowing episode that was packed with magic, sci-fi tech and plenty of dramatic twists and turns.

The biggest question on fans’ minds though is simply ‘does Atticus die in Lovecraft Country?’

Lovecraft Country episode 10

After returning from 1921 with the Book of Names, Atticus and Leti quickly set to work in finding out how they can use the book to save Diana as her curse continues to engulf her.

Tic and Leti begin to perform the spell that will save Dee but the Book of Names transports them into a mysterious burning building that acts as an ancestral plane, similar to that seen in Black Panther. Here, Tic and Leti learn of their roles in the climactic struggle to come.

Tic will be forced to give his blood and indeed his life, while Leti learns the spell that will help them to defeat Christina and stop her from becoming immortal.

The two are successful in saving Dee from the curse, although her arm remains disfigured. Thankfully, Hippolyta has a solution for that.

Tic, Leti and the gang eventually travel to Ardham where they hope to perform the spell that will defeat Christina but there’s a sinister twist to this tale as it’s revealed that Ruby, who gave Leti a vile of Christina’s blood for the spell, is not actually Ruby at all.

Instead it’s a disguised Christina who has her own plans and aims to use Tic’s blood in making her immortal.

Does Atticus die in Lovecraft Country?

  • Yes, Atticus does die in Lovecraft Country’s final episode.

After it’s revealed that Christina has infiltrated the gang and disguised herself as Ruby, she appears to kill Leti and sets to work on casting her own spell, using Atticus’s blood.

She slits his wrists in order to cover herself in his blood but is stopped at the last moment as Leti – who did not die – and Ji-Ah team up to defeat Christina and stop her from becoming immortal and in the process, stop all white people from using magic ever again.

In the middle of all of this, Tic sadly dies from the blood loss from having his wrists slit but his death was key to Leti and Ji-Ah being able to defeat Christina.

The last we see of Tic is him being carried away from Ardham by Leti, Montrose, Hippolyta and Ji-Ah while Dee and her new robot arm see to Christina.

Given that this is a world where magic and supernatural forces exist, fans will no doubt be hoping that there’s a spell out there to bring Tic back from the dead.

However, the magic we’ve seen in the show so far appears to stop people like Leti from dying rather than bringing them back.

If Tic really is going to rise from the dead, we’ll have to wait and see what season 2, if there is one, has in store.

Fans react to Atticus’s fate

It’s safe to say that during the course of Lovecraft Country, fans have really grown to love Atticus and for him to die was truly a heartbreaking moment.

One fan on Twitter theorised:

While this hopeful fan touted the idea of using magic to bring Atticus back: “So if magic is really ours we can bring Atticus back to life, right?”
