Darren Bent has told the GameDay podcast on TalkSPORT that he thinks Arsenal’s Pierre Emerick Aubameyang’s performances have massively changed from last season.

Aubameyang has scored just once for Arsenal in the opening few weeks of the new campaign.

It is the poorest start to the season that the Gabonese international has made in front of goal.

And Bent feels that Aubameyang’s work-rate has also dropped off significantly.

“It’s not the fact he hasn’t scored a goal, it’s the performances,” Bent said.

“Before he signed his contract he was absolutely everywhere – running back, tracking back, putting tackles in, breaking forward. There was a real hunger and intensity to his game.

“At the minute, you can see there’s been a massive drop off. I don’t know if it’s coincided with the new contract, but you can tell that he’s not playing with the same intensity that he had before.

“When you focus so much on getting a new deal like Aubameyang did, you’ll run that extra yard and make that extra effort.

“When he sits down now and analyses his performances before and after the contract he’ll see that there’s been a massive change.”

Aubameyang did score on opening day for Arsenal, but he is yet to hit the back of the net since.

The clinical finisher arguably should have got on the scoresheet against Manchester City at the weekend, but he shot straight at Ederson when well placed.

While there will be no concerns about Aubameyang’s dip in form around Arsenal, they surely will want their star man to start finding the groove again soon.

Arsenal are heavily reliant on Aubameyang to score goals, and if they are to be successful this term, they are likely to need him to fire on all cylinders.
