Arsenal may well fancy signing Red Bull Salzburg playmaker Dominik Szoboszlai, but they face a major battle to land him.

Earlier this month, Fabrizio Romano admitted on his Here We Go podcast that the Gunners are keen to sign Szoboszlai.

He allegedly isn’t top of Arsenal’s list as they pursue a creative midfielder, but he represents an alternative option to Lyon’s Houssem Aouar.

Football.London report that Arsenal had ‘fallen back in the race’ for Szoboszlai over the summer, but remain keen on signing him.

If the Gunners are eyeing a January move, then reports emerging from Germany over the last week could be something of a concern.

BILD claimed last weekend that Leipzig want to sign Szoboszlai, viewing him as a potential addition for 2021 – and their interest has to be a worry for Arsenal.

Leipzig and Salzburg are sister clubs under the Red Bull brand, meaning players move pretty freely between the two clubs – see cases such as Dayot Upamecano, Naby Keita, Peter Gulacsi, Amadou Haidara, Hannes Wolf and, most recently, Hwang Hee-chan.

That established relationship between the two clubs may instantly make Leipzig favourites to land Szoboszlai, with a move to Germany surely appealing given how Salzburg stars have impressed at Leipzig.

The 19-year-old has bagged three goals and three assists in seven games this season, having racked up 12 goals and 18 assists last season.

A Hungarian international, Szoboszlai can play in from the left flank or as a central creative option, which are areas that Arsenal need to strengthen moving forward – but beating Leipzig won’t be easy given how they seemingly have the pick of Salzburg talents.
