Xavier Amaechi has told The Times that he does not regret leaving Arsenal for Hamburg in the summer of 2019.
As reported by BBC Sport, Hamburg signed the 19-year-old winger from Arsenal in July 2019 for a transfer fee of £2.25 million on a four-year contract.
The England Under-20 international winger struggled to break into the Gunners’ first team.
The youngster has not had the best of times in Germany either, as he is not guaranteed a place in the Hamburg starting lineup and has played 32 minutes in 2. Bundesliga this season, according to WhoScored.
However, Amaechi has made it clear that he does not regret leaving Arsenal for Hamburg.
Amaechi told The Times: “He’s (Mikel Arteta) given a lot of players a chance. My good friend Bukayo [Saka] is playing really well, and going to England. I’m happy for him.
“For me, it’s about playing regular football and it’s hard for young players to do that in Arsenal. Bukayo is probably the one that you can say he’s really cemented his place in the team. I have absolutely no regrets coming to Hamburg.”
Progressing and developing
Amaechi is a very talented and promising winger, and at the age of 19, he is still developing and progressing as a footballer.
Hamburg are aiming to win promotion to the Bundesliga this season, and the English teenager could play a big role in that quest in the coming weeks and months.
It is a very good experience for Amaechi to play in Germany and learn a different way of doing things.
