Snapchat has just rolled out a new update with loads of brand new features, but users are confused about a strange yellow dot appearing beside their Story – what does it mean?

The latest Snapchat update has introduced loads of new features to the app that users are pretty excited about.

One thing they added was the ability to apply music to your photos and videos, something that Snapchat users have been wanting for years. Also, they made it possible for any user, not just celebrities, to become a Creator and have a Public Profile, which is pretty cool.

However, as with any update there are also features that users don’t like, and people have been taking to social media to moan about a strange yellow dot next to their Snapchat Story that just won’t disappear.

Why is there a yellow dot on your Snapchat? All will be explained below.

Why is there a yellow dot on Snapchat?

Snapchat users are getting pretty annoyed by a new yellow dot that appears next to their Snapchat Story circle, but what does it mean?

  • You’ve got a notification.

Whilst it may seem like it’s new, the yellow dot has actually always existed in one form or another, it’s just never appeared next to the Snapchat Story icon.

It has the same meaning as it always has though, and the dot is simply telling you that you have a notification. That could be a friend request, something that needs to be changed in your settings or there’s a notification about your story.

How do you get rid of the yellow dot?

  • Address the notification.

Getting rid of the yellow dot on Snapchat is simple, all you have to do is find the notification.

Go to your profile by clicking on your Bitmoji, then you can find exactly what it is that’s causing you to have a notification.

If the yellow dot doesn’t go away, that means you haven’t addressed the notification yet.

Yellow dot angers social media users

Ever since Snapchat updated its app, people have been taking to Twitter to rant about the annoying yellow dot that won’t go away.

One Twitter user said: “This yellow dot by my Snapchat story is driving me crazy.”

“The yellow dot on Snapchat makes me want to die like why won’t it go away,” said another.

If you’ve addressed all your notifications and the yellow dot still won’t go away, then it might be an issue with Snapchat. Try shutting down and reopening your app. If that doesn’t work, the dot should go away on its own eventually, it might just take a while.
