Why did Trump retweet a Babylon Bee article? The president has shared a piece of satire news about Twitter shutting down over-reporting on Joe Biden. Fans went crazy over his retweeting the playful article.
The story was from the Babylon Bee, a satire news site. The motto on the Bee’s Twitter page explains it all: “Fake news you can trust.”
Many of Trump’s Twitter followers are wondering whether he realises he has retweeted a fake news source. Find out more here!
Why did Donald Trump retweet a Babylon Bee article?
- Donald Trump retweeted the article to his Twitter followers this morning, October 16th. The article falsely accuses Twitter of shutting down any negative comments about Joe Biden. Either Trump thinks the article is real or he is playfully asking “Why is Twitter doing this?”.
Until Trump’s retweet, The Babylon Bee’s most famous fake article was about how an appeals court overturned the death of Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg. This story also caused confusion until people realised it was a false article.
The link to the article is titled “Twitter Shuts Down Entire Network To Slow Spread Of Negative Biden News” and was bound to receive a lot of attention. Mainly because it isn’t true.
Trump added that the negative comments people made about Joe Biden have been hidden by Twitter and “This includes his really bad interview last night. Why is Twitter doing this. Bringing more attention to Sleepy Joe & Big T.”
FTrump’s fake news tweet explained!
Trump has retweeted multiple stories from the Babylon Bee. We are reassured that he knows they are fake: “He does know it’s satire,” editor-in-chief Kyle Mann told The New York Times this month. “We are assured.”
The Babylon Bee’s CEO Seth Dillon tweeted: “The Babylon Bee is the president’s most trusted news source.”
During the past week, Trump retweeted an article by QAnon and other groups that promote conspiracy theories.
According to USA today, Trump addressed the tweets in last night’s NBC town hall: “I do a lot of retweets.” The president explained he just “puts things out there and people can decide for themselves.”
NBC moderator Savannah Guthrie responded: “I don’t get that. You’re the president. You’re not like someone’s crazy uncle who just retweets whatever.”
