The death of wrestler Ryan Smile has led to an outpouring of tributes and support from WWE and AEW stars and the wider wrestling world.

The world of wrestling is full of bravado and macho entertainers but away from the ring, the sport’s superstars form a tightly-knit community.

As a result, it can be a devastating blow when a member of that community is lost.

Tragically, that is the case for wrestling star Ryan Smile who has passed away at the age of 31.

The news of Ryan’s death broke on October 14th and fans and fellow stars have wasted no time in paying tribute to the late wrestler.

Ryan Smile has passed away

The news broke on October 14th, 2020 that UK wrestling star Ryan Smile has passed away.

The news of Ryan Smile’s death on Tuesday, October 13th was announced by fellow wrestler Damian ‘No Fun Dunne’ McKeown who released a statement on Facebook on the evening of October 14th.

Birmingham-born Ryan Smiles, who was 31 years old, has held titles in the both the Rev Pro and OTT wrestling series and has been a key member of the respective series lineups since they were founded in 2012 and 2014.

Ryan Smiles’ cause of death

In his Facebook statement, Damian McKeown confirmed that Ryan Smiles died after “losing his battle with mental health.”

According to Inside the Ropes, Ryan’s partner and former fellow wrestler, Alice Walker (whose ring name is Alex Windsor), also posted to Facebook, saying:

“I cannot believe I’m having to write these words… On Tuesday morning, Ryan passed away after losing his battle with mental health, a battle in which he had been fighting for a long time.

“I can’t fathom the words to express how I’m feeling right now. To anyone who knew Ryan, whether through wrestling or on a personal level, it’s with an extremely heavy heart that I have to break this tragic news.”
