The Haunting of Bly Manor arrived on Netflix on October 9th and fans have dubbed the show’s supposedly bad accents ‘the spookiest part’ of the show.
As October arrives once again, attention starts to turn towards the spookiest holiday of them all, Halloween.
The creepy time of year is always met with the release of new horror films and TV shows and 2020 is no different.
Netflix’s newest addition to its horror library is The Haunting of Bly Manor which tells of the creepy goings-on at a typically haunted manor house.
The spooky horror series is full of eerie moments and jump scares but according to some fans, the most terrifying aspect about the whole show are the accents that some of the cast are putting on.

The Haunting of Bly Manor arrived on Netflix on October 9th, 2020.
The nine-episode series follows Dani Clayton (Victoria Pedretti), an au pair (a nanny) for a wealthy family who live in the titular country house, Bly Manor.
However, her job of looking after the children and keeping the house respectable is made much more difficult when it becomes clear that not all is as it seems inside the house.
Fans react to Bly Manor’s questionable accents
It’s safe to say that one of the biggest bugbears that fans have about The Haunting of Bly Manor are the various accents we here throughout there series.
Plenty of viewers have taken to social media to offer up their thoughts on Bly Manor’s accents.
One fan on Twitter wrote: “The spookiest part of The Haunting of Bly Manor so far is the attempted British accents.”
This Scottish fan added: “My pet hate is folk on TV doing s**** Scottish accents but Peter in The Haunting of Bly Manor is a whole other level of s****. Starts his sentences in Peterhead and ends up in Byers Road [Glasgow].”
Meanwhile another viewer commented: I’m watching The Haunting of Bly Manor and the British accents are mostly terrible but what was truly jarring was when they had one of the English dudes say ‘I did the math.’ No???? It’s MATHS. This is unacceptable and unforgiveable.”

The biggest offenders according to viewers
Since the release of The Haunting of Bly Manor, Buzzfeed have ranked the best and worst English accents in the series and sitting in the last two places on their list are Henry Thomas (Henry Wingrave) and Carla Gugino (Old Jamie/The Storyteller).
That’s not ideal when the two characters, especially Carla’s Storyteller, are so key to the series.
Meanwhile, according to the Daily Record, some Scottish viewers have not taken too kindly to English actor Oliver Jackson-Cohen’s attempt at a Scottish accent in his portrayal of the vile Peter Quint.
Some believed his accent was supposed to be Northern Irish while others felt his effort was inconsistent in places.
However, supposedly questionable accents have not hindered the popularity of the horror series as it’s maintained top spot in Netflix’s top 10 trending list since it released on October 9th.
