At this year’s Billboard Music Awards on October 14th, Post Malone had a total of 16 nominations but it was his alleged lip syncing which had people talking.
The BBMAs were originally set to take place in April but were postponed due to Covid-19. Instead, Post Malone’s BBMA performance was live streamed from the Dolby Theatre in LA, alongside the rest of the show.
The rapper performed his single Circles with Tyla Yaweh and the official Billboard Music Awards account tweeted: “Can’t get over how amazing Post Malone and Tyla Yaweh’s performance was.”
Some fans however thought it was not-so-amazing.
Claims of lip syncing against Post Malone
Users on Twitter couldn’t help but troll Post Malone for what they deemed to be obvious lip syncing. One fan tweeted: “Post Malone is on lip sync battle right now. Oh wait, this is the billboard music awards….”
“Post Malone makes great music but the dude can’t lip sync very well,” tweeted another.
Some stans however liked the performance: “We can always trust Post Malone for a good performance,” tweeted one.
His history of lip syncing claims
Although some were shocked at how apparently obvious the lip syncing was during his Billboard Awards performance, it wouldn’t be the first time Post Malone has faced these accusations.
In 2018, he was accused of miming at the American Music Awards where he won Best Male Pop/ Rock Artist of the Year.
A 2019 review of a Post Malone concert by The Star also claimed there was miming involved, writing: “His lip-sync game was often loose enough that you wondered why he’d even bothered putting the microphone to his lips in the first place.”
Ozzy Osbourne and Travis Scott faced similar claims when they performed with Post Malone in 2019 too. “Watching Post Malone, Ozzy Osbourne, and Travis Scott all LIP SYNC next to each other is the most uncomfortable sight I’ve ever beheld,” tweeted one viewer.
