The Haunting of Bly Manor arrived on Netflix on October 9th but just who is the gardener and why is Jamie actually the show’s key character?
As October arrives once again, attention starts to turn towards the spookiest holiday of them all, Halloween.
The creepy time of year is always met with the release of new horror films and TV shows and 2020 is no different.
Netflix’s newest addition to its horror library is The Haunting of Bly Manor which tells of the creepy goings-on at a typically haunted manor house.
The manor house contains a whole raft of notable characters including servants, a chef and a gardener.
But just who is the gardener, Jamie, and why is she actually the most important character of all?
The Haunting of Bly Manor on Netflix
The Haunting of Bly Manor arrived on Netflix on October 9th, 2020.
The nine-episode series follows Dani Clayton (Victoria Pedretti), an au pair (a nanny) for a wealthy family who live in the titular country house, Bly Manor.
However, her job of looking after the children and keeping the house respectable is made much more difficult when it becomes clear that not all is as it seems inside the house.
Who is the gardener?
The gardener is a woman by the name of Jamie (Amelia Eve).
After being introduced in episode 1, she and Dani start to grow close to each other and over the course of the series begin to fall for one another.
In episode 9, after it appears that the haunting Lady of the Lake has been banished, Jamie and Dani move to the US and start a new life together.
However, not all is well with Dani as the Lady of the Lake has possessed her and after years of apparent peace, she starts to have visions and hallucinate.
At one point, Dani – without realising – even attempts to strangle Jamie in her sleep and at this point knows she’s become too much of a danger and travels back to Bly Manor to become the Lady of the Lake herself.
Jamie is the narrator
The final episode also reveals the storyteller’s true identity.
After first being introduced in episode 1 and being the person to guide us through each episode, it’s revealed that Jamie is the person telling the story.
While the older versions of Flora and Miles don’t remember the events of their childhood, Jamie has a clear recollection and spends several hours delving back into her story.
The Haunting of Bly Manor is available to stream now on Netflix after releasing on Netflix on October 9th, 2020.
