Burnley manager Sean Dyche is already putting plans in place to sign Dundee United starlets Logan Chalmers and Lewis Neilson in the new year, according to The Sun (12 October, page 61).

On paper at least, the next ten weeks or so are already shaping up to be a struggle at Turf Moor.

The Clarets have failed to pick up a point in any of their first three Premier League games in 2020/21, with Dale Stephens the only addition to a squad that lost three of its most experienced heads (Jeff Hendrick, Joe Hart and Aaron Lennon) on free transfers.

And while Neilson and Chalmers aren’t exactly capable of strolling straight into Burnley’s starting XI, a pair of highly rated Scottish youngsters would at least give Dyche some much-needed depth and cover.

The Sun reports the gravel-voiced gaffer has already placed Neilson and Chalmers on his hit list.

Right-back Neilson is already a Scottish Premiership regular and added to his growing reputation with an eye-catching performance against Celtic a few weeks ago.

“As far as interest in him, I’m delighted for him. I hope there is (interest) because that means I’ve got good players here,” Dundee United manager Micky Mellon told the Evening Times.

20-year-old Chalmers, meanwhile, is a midfielder – one who already has scouts from Southampton, Crystal Palace and Birmingham City keeping a close eye on the situation at Tannadice (Courier).

Youngsters Jimmy Dunne, Bobby Thomas, Josh Benson and Anthony Glennon have all made senior debuts for Burnley this season, with Dyche keen to check out the youngsters at his disposal to make the best of a bad situation.
