Pokeprincxss claims she got sued by Nintendo

In a YouTube video uploaded on Friday (October 9th) pokeprincxss claimed she was sued by Nintendo which is why she has had to change her name to digitalprincxss.

Nintendo is a Japanese multinational consumer electronics and video game company headquartered in Kyoto. Originally founded in 1889, by craftsman Fusajiro Yamauchi, the company has now become one of Japan’s most valuable companies and is well known for many of its video game consoles including the Game Boy, Nintendo 64, Game Cube, DS, Wii and most recently the Switch.

In the YouTube video, pokeprincxss said that she chose her username simply due to her love of Pokemon, a media franchise owned by Nintendo.

Recently, she started selling merchandise for her fans, all designed around her pokeprincxss brand. Unaware of any issues, she used a lawyer to get her username trademarked and also started designing clothes that featured Pokemon characters.

“About two months ago I received an email from my lawyer saying hey you’ve got a cease and desist from Nintendo and I’m withdrawing from your case,” she said.

She claimed that the cease and desist letter from Nintendo argued that her merchandise had copyrighted them, and told her to no longer use the pokeprincxss name.

She said: “People can get confused between my username and the Pokemon company since I put Pokemon on my merchandise when I was selling it, and Nintendo doesn’t want people to think I am in any way affiliated with them or that I had a partnership with them.”

Pokeprincxss argued that it was never her intention to be malicious or hurt the company, and claimed she has to accept the change due to her own poor judgement.

Fans react to pokeprincxss’s rebrand on Twitter

Many fans have been arguing that pokeprincxss’s rebrand was unfair, claiming that there are many other TikTok and Twitch users who have the word ‘poke’ or ‘Pokemon’ in their name and make money off it.

One Twitter user said: “literally F*CK NINTENDO for what they’re doing to pokeprincxss. it’s so not fair and it’s extremely sick to sue a SMALL CREATOR for something as little as her user. yet again we see another company’s true colors come out for a multimillion dollar company to sue a small creator.”

“The fact that pokeprincxss was literally sued by Nintendo bc she had half the name of Pokemon is insane lmao. She was forced to rebrand and give them money like?? Pokemon get it together,” said another.
